The goal of this website is to help you obtain funding from the E-rate program for your high speed broadband connections as well as help you decide on the best approach for obtaining high speed broadband. In the following text we propose next steps.
If you are not currently served by fiber optic based broadband you will likely need to decide within the next 1 – 3 years how you will get high speed broadband to your school premises. Once you have decided you want high speed broadband to the school, the next step is deciding how it will be delivered. Some options include
- have a local service provider build a network to your school
- have your municipality build the network
- have the state education network build the network
- build the network yourself (meaning, the school contracts with a contractor to build the network)
Each of these approaches to building the network has pro’s and con’s and in the coming weeks I will be explaining the various benefits and disadvantages to the options above.
The December 2014 E-rate rules promotes paying for the construction of the network in one lump sum, with the school required match being able to be paid over 4 years
In summary, there are a bunch of things to know for E-rate funding year 2016, and I’ll be fleshing out this website with all the information you need. Feel free to contact me to prioritize certain items that are of importance to you.
