Why Fiber ?

Fiber optic cable is currently the best mechanism known to transmit data. Fiber optic cable has a number of inherent advantages over other technologies such as copper or coax, and fiber optic cable has a virtually unlimited broadband capacity. Fiber optic cable is made from glass and transmits data via pulsing light. When fiber is installed underground or aerially on poles, typically many fiber optic strands are installed at the same time, for example 48, 144, 288 or even higher. If a school were to use 4 strands of fiber, this leaves plenty of strands for use by other entities, for example, other community anchor institutions or service providers.
